"Today, even in my deep sorrow at the loss of my beloved daughter, my heart rejoices for the mother whose
boy has been given her heart, and for the three other families whose load must be lifted by Cathy's great gift."

About Us
Transplant NI Team
The team of 5 Transplant Co-ordinators is based at Belfast City Hospital and provides a Regional service to
facilitate organ donation in every Intensive Care Unit throughout Northern Ireland. We play a pivotal role
in talking with the donor family, gaining consent for donation, assessing which organs are suitable for
transplant and arranging the donor operation.
The allocation of organs is governed by UK Transplant, which is a special health authority based within the NHS.
Matching, particularly in the case of kidneys, is very important so donated kidneys are shared throughout the UK
to ensure that each kidney goes to the best matched person.
UK Transplant is directly accountable to health
ministers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and to Parliament
through the Department of Health in England. Originally established in
1991 as the UK Transplant Support
Service Authority (UKTSSA) its role was extended in July 2000
to increase organ donation rates.
For further information contact the Transplant NI team
at Belfast City Hospital directly on 028 90 263846 or

Or via the hospital switch board on 028 90 329241.
