  • We are striving to increase our live donor transplants and will consider family members and close friends of people who are on dialysis and needing a kidney transplant.

LIVE TRANSPLANTS / DONORS

Kidney transplantation is the optimal treatment for the majority of patients whose kidneys have failed. Unfortunately the supply of donor organs in the UK is outstripped by the demand for transplants. Over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of patients deemed suitable for kidney transplant and so the waiting list will continue to increase.

  • Potential living  kidney donors need to be blood group compatible, tissue type compatible and healthy with no serious underlying medical conditions.
  • Living donor kidney transplants can provide a better outcome than cadaver transplants.
  • Paired living donation is also an option in N Ireland
